Mrs. Spring Fragrance and her husband
are Chinese immigrants living in Seattle.
She befriends her neighbors' daughter,
Laura, who is in love with a man Laura's
family would not approve. Mrs. Spring
Fragrance recites two lines of poetry to

overhears their conversation.
