Should the government pay people to stay home during pandemic? why or why not?

I believe that the government shouldn't pay people to stay home. I think they should use the money instead to help support those who lost their jobs and can no longer provide for themselves or their family. I think the companies that people work for when it is possible should have their workers work from home and have paid leave if they are home sick.
