I’d figure she’d be here, she practically lives here. I’m still very irritated with pretty boy, I can’t believe he had the nerve to talk to me that way! Ava can clearly see the anger on my face because she says, “Sila, are you ok?” “No! I’m so angry right now!” “What’s wrong?” “He’s so annoying and he has the nerve to call me sunflower? Why is he so obsessed with sunflowers anyways? What makes him so cool? Well guess what I don’t think he’s...” “Woah, Si calm down! I have no clue what you are talking about. Who is HE?” I take a deep breath and tell her everything that happened. After I finish she says, “I think he likes you!” I give her a look, after that story, that’s all she has to say? “Seriously Ava? That’s ridiculous, he clearly hates me. I mean I called him pretty boy.” I smile as the image of his angry face comes in my head after I gave him his new nickname. “Si, he called you sunflower!” I roll my eyes at her, “Yeah, don’t remind me.” She smiles at me, “Did you at least get his name?” “Um yeah it’s pretty boy.” I say. Now she rolls her eyes. Before she can say anything else I say, “Well how about we forget about this random dude and enjoy our last day of freedom. It’s not like I’ll ever see him again anyways.” Ava smiles at me, I know she wants to say something about how she thinks I’ll see him again. No way is that happening. I hope to never see him again. The rest of our day was pretty good. We didn’t really do much. We just enjoyed our day. We watched some movies, went shopping, did some painting and coloring, just pretty much anything we wanted. I will say, I had a great day but a certain someone never left my mind. Yes, I’m talking about pretty boy. Don't take this the wrong way, I definitely do NOT like him or anything, I mean I just met the guy. Plus he’s super annoying and there is no way I’d ever want to hang out with anyone like him. I just couldn’t stop thinking about him. Just the thought of him makes me furious. I clearly hate the guy so why can’t I get him out of my head? I just need to forget about him. That shouldn’t be too hard. I hope. I’m sure I’ll forget all about him tomorrow at school.

explanation:

mrs. mallard has a heart condition, which means that if she's startled she could die. so, when news comes that her husband's been killed in an accident, the people who tell her have to cushion the blow.

mrs. mallard's sister josephine sits down with her and dances around the truth until mrs. mallard finally understands what happened. the deceased mr. mallard's friend, richards, hangs out with them for moral support.

richards originally found out because he had been in the newspaper headquarters when a report of the accident that killed mr. mallard, which happened on a train, came through. richards waited for proof from a second source before going to the mallards' to share the news.

when mrs. mallard finds out what happened she acts differently from most women in the same position, who might disbelieve it. she cries passionately before deciding to go to her room to be by herself.

in her room, mrs. mallard sits down on a comfy chair and feels completely depleted. she looks out the window and looks out at a world that seems alive and fresh. she can see the sky coming between the rain clouds.

mrs. mallard sits still, occasionally crying briefly like a kid might.

the narrator describes her as youthful and pretty, but because of this news she looks preoccupied and absent.

she seems to be holding out for some kind of unknown news or knowledge, which she can tell is approaching.

mrs. mallard breathes heavily and tries to resist before succumbing to this unknown thing, which is a feeling of freedom.

acknowledging freedom makes her revive, and she doesn't consider whether she should feel bad about it.

mrs. mallard thinks to herself about how she'll cry when she sees her husband's dead body and how much he loved her. even so, she's kind of excited about the chance to make her own decisions and not feel accountable to anyone.

mrs. mallard feels even more swept up by the idea of freedom than the fact that she had felt love for her husband.

i’m writing a memoir and i’ve been given the great suggestion of placing a ‘sub-narrative’ within some of the chapters – sort of, what was going on with me in the grand scheme of things.

i was wondering how to format this so that it is very obvious we are stepping out the of story.

firstly is a change in font from serif to sans workable? i also use dashes for a scene change. was thinking of using a different scene-changer too.

here’s a (shortened) example:

university – or what’s known as ‘uni’ in australia – were some of the best days of my life. where else do you get to potter around in a great location, have very little responsibility, learn lots of things, do lots of things and walk out four years later with a bonus – a degree!

with my university years i had immersed myself into community of intelligent ambitious people. generally everyone had a confidence about themselves. they knew where they were going in life and weren’t threatened by others.
