Why is the work of information security important?

Because in a society where lets say there is none you basically would not own any private information yourself you may have your name on it but without information security my credit card or bank account would just be as good as yours. Information security prevents people from just taking other peoples private information (mainly online) which is very important in todays world with the technology we have.
