How do you decide your purpose for writing an autobiography

I assume when people decide to write autobiographies, it is because they did something extremely important in life, like invent something or other. Or maybe you're a famous celebrity and people like to find out your rise to fame. Another reason could be you went through something in your past, or are about to, such as escaping North Korea, living through a war, or living your last few years with a deadly disease.
