To Ashton: I Hold Your Heart, and You Hold Mine. - A poem
I can’t help but feel
A jumble deep inside
Like butterflies and open skies
My heart feels alive
I find you feel the same
And it brings happiness oh so new
But memories rush back
And the colors mix with blue
I recall all the pain
Past lovers brought to me
They broke me and tore me apart
Again, my heart start’s to bleed
You say you’d never hurt me
That i’m your only one
Many have said that before
And left me hanging on a rung
With this feeling of love
Fear rushes inside
That you will leave me broken
And like the others, push me aside
My heart has been broken
One too many times
And as I hold your heart
You’re also holding mine
I trust you with my life
That you won’t bring me pain
For through all the strive
Love is always what you gain
Know many things will come between us
And many trials we may face
But I will always stay beside you
No matter how many steps we re-trace
My love for you is endless
And you will see in time
I’ll never break your heart
Even if you break mine.
