Many Sioux tribes were nomadic people who moved from place to place following bison (buffalo) herds. Much of their lifestyle was based around hunting bison. Where did the Sioux live? The Sioux lived in the northern Great Plains in lands that are today the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The Sioux are known for their distinguished looks. Their hair is very black and it is worn long. Like other Native American tribes, they also have high cheekbones and large noses. The Sioux Indians have the distinction of having one of the most well-known Indian chiefs in history.
