When the news gets bad people don't want to be reminded of it and would rather watch the parodies to forget about real problems or make light of them. I think as the news gets less ugly, people won't watch as many parody shows, instead they'll just watch the news.  I don't think they'll last forever bc eventually the need and the audience for them will die out.
