Many scholars believe that "The Raven" written by Edgar Alan Poe does not deserve the credit it has, surviving the passage of more than a century and remaining popular. They claim that the style and structure of the poem are extremely outdated and do not reflect a genius of the poem in the manipulation of words. In addition, they claim that the melodramatic style has become tacky and the supernatural nature of the poem is vague and poorly constructed.

However, we cannot deny that the poem has a strong influence on the history of American literature, besides presenting a fluid and captivating narrative to the reader that is what makes this poem so popular.
