Classroom Activity Using Effective Sentences
,
When Billy saw the crime, he was in a grocery store buying hot
dog buns for the barbecue he had scheduled for the next weekend.
The crime was a burglary, and the criminal was someone you
would never expect to see commit a crime. His basketball shoes
squeaked as he ran away, and he looked no more than 15 years old
with a fresh, eager face that was the picture of innocence. Billy
watched the youth steal a purse right off a woman's shoulder, and
the bright sun reflected off the thief's forehead as he ran away,
although the weather was quite chilly and had been for a week. The
police officer who caught the thief tripped him and handcuffed him
as Billy paid for the hot dog buns, got in his car, and drove away.
