Read the draft of a short story. Occasionally Norah would pass her neighbor, Mr. Miller, on the sidewalk, and he would gravely tip his hat when she greeted him. Gradually,
their stiff greetings turned into cautious conversations. She began to suspect that there was more to Mr. Miller than she had initially assumed.
This hunch was confirmed at the end of the summer, during a thundershower. Glancing out the window, Norah saw Mr. Miller trudging into
the yard, buffeted by wind and rain. As she watched, he reached down and picked up a stray kitten, tucking the drenched, pitiful little creature
inside his jacket before slowly making his way back to his apartment. From that moment on, Norah saw Mr. Miller in a different way.
Which sentence best concludes the story?
01. She realized he was more comfortable around animals than people.
2. She discovered he was lonely, and decided to work even harder to befriend him.
3. She observed that he like the stray kitten, probably needed someone to take care of him.
4. She learned that beneath his stern face and reserved manner was a gentle, tenderhearted man.
