The word "romanticism" has little to do with the popular idea of romance. Romanticism is a movement in literature and the arts. It began in early nineteenth century Europe. Nature is the primary focus in romanticism. Another key element of this movement was imagination. Romanticism was also about the freedom to express personal emotion.
