In lines 31-34, the speaker writes, "right then I wished that Danny / had been able to hit it with the ball / and changed its course- / maybe that would have saved it." Surely the speaker knows that his friend couldn't have hit the Hindenburg with a rubber ball and changed its course. So why does he say this? What does he mean?
