In this poem from the year 1814, Keats compares life to a dream and that leads him to wonder if death could be like going to sleep while watching images of joyful situations. He portrays death in a good light, and questions the human fear of death because he recognizes that dying is an inevitable part of life. Furthermore, he challenges how easily we neglect the possibility to appreciate life despite fearing death throughout our whole lives.

Keats dedicated this poem to his brother, who was dying from tuberculosis. Keats himself contracted the same illness because he was taking care of his brother. Their mother had died of the same disease. It seems like Keats took this heartbreaking experience to form a positive outlook on death.

I haven´t had such an experience with death itself, so I couldn´t relate to the kind of experience that Keats had. However, I do suffer from anxiety from time to time and this approach to death and life makes me think of how to overcome that problem. The fear of something bad happening can sometimes be so overwhelming that I find it impossible to see the good things in my life. And no matter what problems I have, I´m sure that anxiety makes it look worst than it really is. Worrying so much about the future becomes an obstacle to enjoying the present. I guess that considering the good and the bad as part of life, such as Keats did, is a good way to deal with those upsetting moments.
