The simile that Shakespeare uses to describe the schoolboy is a snail.

In lines 7 and 8 Shakespeare states categorically that “Then, the whining schoolboy with his satchel And shining morning face, creeping like a snail.”

This comparison is still fits children today when they are at the second stage of their seven-state growth towards adulthood and death.

This description does not fit me today.  I am an emotional lover, at the very third stage of my life's journey.

Explanation:

In his book titled, "The Seven Ages of Man," William Shakespeare (1864) noted that a man undergoes many experiences in seven clear stages.  He listed these stages as "the helpless infant, the whining schoolboy, the emotional lover, the devoted soldier, the wise judge, the old man still in control of his faculties, and the extremely aged - returning to helplessness (second infancy).
