Choose a specific detail, sentence, or paragraph in the text. Explain how this section supports the main idea of the text. Nia Dennis is a gymnast for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) team. She goes to school there. Her latest floor routine is called "The Culture." In it, she dances and flips to bits of songs from Missy Elliot, Kendrick Lamar and Tupac.

"The Culture" is a celebration of Black artists and musicians. Dennis is 21 years old. She performed the routine at a gymnastics meet on January 23, 2021. A video of it went viral.

"I wanted it to be a celebration of everything Black people can do, everything we can survive," said Dennis.

In gymnastics, most of the athletes are white women. Dennis said her gymnastic routines show the joys and struggles of being a Black woman in America.

Question: What inspired the routine?

Dennis: It was based on the Black Lives Matter protests this past summer.

Question: How did you channel Black Lives Matter into gymnastics?

Dennis: Black Lives Matter can be difficult to talk about. Sometimes you have to meet people where they are, with a celebration. Every song is from a major Black musician. They all had a huge influence on Black culture. They also influenced me. I'm celebrating what they did and having the time of my life.

Dennis: I used to live in Ohio. There, I was surrounded by white gymnasts. People would ask, "Can I touch your hair?" I had to deal with things like that my entire life.

Question: What else have you had to deal with as a Black gymnast?

Dennis: Body image. I'm a powerful, strong gymnast. There is a certain look that coaches and judges want. I never fit the look.

I've struggled to find myself as a Black woman in America. I was constantly told I wasn't good enough. I tried to fit the image of what everybody else wanted me to be. Then, I came to UCLA. Here, I can celebrate Black Excellence, celebrate me.

Question: What does "Black Excellence" mean to you?

Dennis: It's a celebration of Black greatness, of things that have had an influence on Black culture. Every musician in my floor routine has had an influence.

Question: Do you think gymnastics could change?

Dennis: I hope so. I want gymnastics to be an enjoyable place for every gymnast.

I want to inspire young Black gymnasts. We're very rare in this sport. I want to let them know they can do anything they set their minds to. No matter what people tell you. Go after it and get it.
