Topic: What are your dreams for yourself, your family, the world or society, or your future? Use the framework and phrase “I have a dream” to introduce new ideas in your speech. A way to add interest and variety to your speech is to use some of the elements learned about in this unit, such as metaphors, similes, onomatopoeia, and imagery. Like King’s speech, your speech should sound as if you really believe in what you’re saying, and you want your listeners to believe in it, too! Avoid using phrases like I think, I believe, in my opinion, and it seems to me in your speech.

Sample speech excerpt:

"I have a dream that I will be the first person in my family to attend college. My whole life, I watched my parents work hard and struggle to provide a good life for my brothers and me. I have a dream that I can take care of them for a change since they have sacrificed so much to make sure I have a good life.
