Prison. Each day you have the same monotonous routine: wake up with the overwhelming dread that today is like every other; abide by rules and regulations put in place by someone of a higher power; eat the same bland soggy pasta with minimal sauce and sleep, only to reawaken to do the whole wretched thing again. Does this sound familiar to you? Of course, as a 15 year old I have never been to ‘prison’ but I have been to school. Each day we sit behind our desks and learn what is necessary in order to pass our exams but what are we learning about life? Life is more than knowing the date of a battle, life is more that understanding how a subordinate clause works, life is more than knowing long division. Life is about opportunity! Opening new doors to something that will make you feel excited at the prospect of waking up every day. School needs to change and together we can make those changes. How does the writer foreground their opinion?

What vocabulary do they use to highlight how they feel towards the topic?

Do they use and language techniques to show how mundane school is? What is the impact of this?

What DAFOREST techniques are used? How does this help to show their opinion?
