Read the excerpt from "Standing out in a Crowd
What is the cause in this excerpt?
It was 1885, and the Statue of Liberty sat in pieces inside
crates. It had no base to stand on. Some money had
been raised to build a base, but the project was a
hundred thousand dollars short. Because nothing was
getting done, a newspaper editor named Joseph Pulitzer
took matters into his own hands. He started a campaign
to raise the rest of the money. He used his newspaper to
spread the word, and he tried to motivate people to
donate. He said that he would print their names on the
front page of his newspaper.
O Some money has already been raised to build a base
for the Statue of Liberty
O Joseph Pulitzer raises the money to finish a base for
the Statue of Liberty,
The Statue of Liberty cannot be completed because it
does not have a base.
A newspaper publisher will print the name of every
person who donates money.
