Fay asked me to come quickly if I wanted to photograph Ebobo traveled across Africa to the camp and waited for the gorilla's next visit. Two months passed without a sign of Ebobo. Then one day I fell asleep on a picnic bench. I felt the slightest stirring and when I woke, there was Ebobo sitting right beside me! I called for Fay, and we rushed to follow the gorilla into the forest. Ebobo angrily stomped around. He grunted, beat his chest and knocked down bushes. He wanted to show us that he was the boss here, but we refused to run away in fear. Then the gorilla's behavior changed. He seemed to realize, "These guys are with me now." He led us deep into the forest, pausing from time to time so we could catch up. The jungle growth was thick with thorns and brush.
