Directions/Prompt: Squealer has made several speeches to the animals by this point
in the novel. Choose one speech from any of the chapters we have read so far, and
respond to each of the following points:
1. How does Squealer try to persuade the animals to believe what he says, or convince
the animals to do what he wants? What persuasive techniques does Squealer use when
he speaks?
2. Propaganda is a type of communication that manipulates its audience to believe or do
something which benefits the spenker. Do you think Squealer's speech (whichever one
you choose amounts to propaganda? Foxplain your answer by briefly describing the
purpose of Squealer's speech and how it affects the other animals
