1. The start of the American Revolution in 1775 presented Native American nations with difficult choices. Choose a side? Avoid the conflict entirely? Each nation had encountered different experiences with European settlers. A few colonial settlements and local Native communities managed to get along. But many Native nations had endured decades of cruelty and loss at the hands of the colonists. These nations resented the ever-increasing losses of land, rights, and life they had experienced since the arrival of the invaders.

2.When the war began, some nations were promised lands and safety by the British government in exchange for their loyalty. Some saw reason to help the Patriots. Other nations did not want to get involved with the war and tried to remain neutral

3.What united all Native nations at the start of the Revolution was the desire to preserve their rights and freedom. How they went about it varied greatly from group to group.
