One of the most pressing issues in our region is raising funds to expand the Wild Bird Preserve. Currently, the preserve spans over 200 acres and is home to some six dozen exotic or endangered avian species. Some of these species need extra-special care and attention, such as the Tarkington meadowlark. For like 10 years all around this big old country, the meadowlark's numbers have been dipping for a couple reasons. One, people being super-aggressive in taking down trees in the forests. Two, polluted rivers in the birds' swampy homes. This preserve's got to get way bigger if this poor bird's going to have a chance.
