It is unusual to see a mourning dove without a partner. Mourning doves mate for life. They are devoted partners. They build their nest together. The male collects twigs and leaves for the female. He stands on her back while she puts the nest together. He gives her the materials. The female lays eggs. Then males and females take turns caring for the eggs.
