In "The Rockpile" by James Balwin, Elizabeth is the character who identifies the rockpile as a dangerous place. This story was included in the short story collection, Going to Meet the Man. The story is set in a small part of town where you can see the whole street from your balcony.

The story focuses on two boys, Roy and his older brother John. The rock pile is a natural formation across the street from where the boys live.
