What motivates people to suffer for change?

Change is always difficult, even if some people are better at facing it than others. However, despite the fact that it often causes suffering, people are willing to go through this pain in order to be able to achieve change. There are many reasons for this. For example, some people might believe that changing will benefit others, and they most likely care about others more than they care about themselves. Others might think that although change could cause suffering for a little while, it might bring great rewards later on. Finally, another reason could be that people take pleasure in knowing that they can improve themselves despite the pain this might bring. They take pleasure in knowing they are strong and resilient.
