All the other sentences contain verbs of manner of movement which accurately describe the movement being performed (hiked, sprinted back and forth, streched and slowly jogged). These sentences also contain PPs (prepositional phrases) denoting the exact location where the movement takes place (in the blooming forest, in the stuffy high school gym, around the track). The NPs are also modified by AdjPs which also add more information about the location. It is a "stuffy high school gym", not only a "high school gym".

The third option is your answer because it is not as descriptive as the other sentences. It contains the word "several" which means "more than two but not many", so you can't tell really how many flights of stairs they walked up. The location is also vague because it is referred with the PP "there" which does not evoke a particular place.
