In “woo’d and married and a’” by joanna baillie, what is the father looking for in his daughter’s mate?

I read the poem and I think that the father wanted his daughter's mate to be patient and steady in dealing with his daughter because the daughter is still very young.

In this poem, it shows the scene before the wedding happens where the parents of the bride do the talking and the bride simply smiles and appear docile and sweet.
