in ray bradbury's short story "a sound of thunder", mr. eckels's fearfulness leads to drastic consequences for the rest of the world.

in the story, mr. eckels, who is a hunter, hires a time travel company to travel to the age of dinosaurs. although he is excited for the hunting expedition at the beginning, when they reach there and mr. eckels sees the tyrannosaurus, he feels frightened. as he is afraid of the tyrannosaurus, he steps off the path although he has been warned not to do it. by stepping off the path, the entire course of the future is affected: mr. eckart alters the future by stepping on a butterfly, which causes a new man to be elected president in the future. in that way, it is mr. eckart's fearfulness what triggers 'the butterfly effect' and what leads to drastic consequences for the rest of the world.

in this passage of moby-*ick, melville is developing the theme of obsession. the first part of the passage "sacrifice in the line of duty is noble" the author talks about nobles as a good character and also about sacrifice. if there is a duty and also a good cause it is good to fight for it and even if you die it would be admirable in our society. nobody can judge a person who sacrifices for doing what is correct.

in the second line "vengeance can become obsessive" is the perfect example of what happened to captain ahab. hunting and killing the white whale has taken over his life, he lost track of his own life in order to obtain his vengeance and that is not a good idea. vengeance is bad and it lead the character to suffer and pain even when they get vengeance, they feel empty they don't have a purpose anymore, their life lost the reason of existence.

in the third line the author talks about "commitment to a cause is admirable" this idea is similar to the first one, it talks about be the compromise to a good cause, it needs to be correct so it would be admirable. if you are committed to a bad cause as vengeance it is not admirable.

and finally in the fourth line "heartache is an unavoidable part of life" the author talks about death, we can't escape from death, it's our final destination in life and it's the end of everything. so we can obtain vengeance but if we die in the process it would be a shame.

the people of renaissance florence, like most city–states of the era, were composed of four social classes: the nobles, the merchants, the tradesmen and the unskilled workers.

the nobles lived on large estates outside the city walls. they owned most of the city’s land, so the nobles controlled. the nobles served as military officers, royal advisers and as politicians.

baldassare castiglione described the proper manners of a noble in the book of the courtier (1528). castiglione wrote that a noble must have training to be an able warrior and social talents such as wit, the ability to dance, and “a certain grace that makes all his activities seem effortless and unconscious.”

the nobles were disdainful of the merchant class, who gained wealth in industries like wool processing, shipbuilding and banking. the merchants sought to protect their wealth by controlling the government and marrying into noble families. they became patrons of great artists in order to gain public favor.

the tradesmen of florence were the crafts workers and shopkeepers. most tradesmen belonged to guilds, organizations that established standards of quality, set rules for membership, and limited outside competition.

the unskilled workers were the lowest class of city workers. these laborers did not have job protection and were very dependent on their employers. workers who violated rules could have their wages withheld or could be discharged from their jobs.
