The Need for Need Peter was confused about everything he was feeling. He was the smarter, better looking, and funnier one of the Smith kids, and Logan was a competition now. Peter wanted his baby brother to be more confident and happier, of course, but he also felt jealous of Logan. What if everyone likes him more than me? Peter thought about the root of his worries.

Before today, Peter took care of Logan and made him feel better about everything. Now, Logan seemed like he didn’t need Peter’s help in anything. Usually, Logan came to his big brother, his hero, whenever he was in a jam. Today, Logan smiled, whistled, and redid his calculus assignment all by himself.

“Ma,” Peter called out and ran after his dear mother who had just returned from work. “Do you need help carrying in the groceries or anything?”

“Hey,” Dory addressed her eldest child. “I didn’t even go to the store, bud. I’m good.” Then, she looked at her son with the look of understanding all mothers had. “I was thinking you could help Logan study for his learner’s permit. You know he will be ready to take the test in a few months.”

How does Ma know me so well? How does she know I want to feel needed? Peter thought as he smiled and walked towards his mother.

“I know you because I have raised you from day one, Peter boy,” Dory said, ruffling his hair. “I also wish that you needed me like you used to. But, I know you always will need me, even if it is just a little bit less than before.”

“Tell me how you know what I am thinking. Are you a ghost?” Peter asked his beloved mother.

“Nah. Just a mother,” Dory replied and winked.

This excerpt is from “the poet” by alfred, lord tennyson. the poem describes a poet's consciousness and perception. which three lines suggest the richness of a poet's thoughts? thus truth was multiplied on truth, [the world like one great garden show'd,] and thro' the wreaths of floating dark upcurl'd, rare sunrise flow'd. [and freedom rear'd in that august sunrise] her beautiful bold brow, when rites and forms before his burning eyes melted like snow. [there was no blood upon her maiden robes] sunn'd by those orient skies; but round about the circles of the globes of her keen eyes and in her raiment's hem was traced in flame wisdom, a name to shake [all evil dreams of power--a sacred name.] and when she spake, [her words did gather thunder as they ran,] and as the lightning to the thunder which follows it, riving the spirit of man, making earth wonder, so was their meaning to her words. no sword of wrath her right arm whirl'd, [ but one poor poet's scroll, and with 'his' word] she shook the world.
