boys stripping down shows they are getting out of order because there is no real reason for
stripping at the time. Another example of the boys descent into savagery is when they paint their
faces. The boys could also be doing this to camouflage. The boys kill pigs, and even worse, kill
their own people.
Piggy's cache all represent something that is important to the crew. The conch symbolises
organization of power and order in civilization. Piggy symbolises their past life and order as well as
hope. Piggy's Glasses represent their needs like water, food, and shelter. The conch reminds that
something bad is going to happen because when piggy broke The Conch. Rodger took the honor
and killed him because he broke the conch. These reminders all prove that the beast is all of them
and the humanity of the characters are slowly slipping away. They are turning into monsters more
like beasts.
The Lord of the Flies is a pig's head on a stick, which is severed from the body of a sow which is
hunted and killed by Jack and his hunters. Jack puts it on a sharpened stick, and leaves it as a gift
to the beast. The parachuted man is, like the Lord of the Flies, just an innocent happening. Nothing
scary. But the boy's imaginations and fears, just as Simon's did to the pig's head, make it into a
beast. It's all in the mind, and the "evil" of the beast is too. What makes them scared, and what
makes them behave badly, is the darkness of their own hearts.
