Record notes from your sources on 4" x 6" or 5" x 8" note cards. Then, once you have arranged your note cards in a tentative order, copy your notes below, arranging them by card (card 1, card 2, card 3). Keep these guidelines in mind as you take notes.

Decide which rhetorical strategy you will use to support your thesis statement. (e. g., narration, description, exposition or some combination).
Analyze several historical records pertaining to your investigation, examining critical relationships between elements of the research topic.
Explain the perceived reason or reasons for the similarities and differences in historical records with information derived from primary and secondary sources to support or enhance the presentation.
Include information from all relevant perspectives and take into consideration the validity and reliability of sources.
