Alain Locke, an African American intellectual, titled his Harlem Renaissance
anthology The New Negro. If you could ask him one question about his book, who
would it be?
Black intellectuals fueled the Harlem Renaissance, but in other cities they were
less successful. In hindsight, if you could ask somebody struggling with racism in
another 1920s city a question, what would it be?
