On October 1 Walter Mitchell, a young emergency helicopter pilot, had just completed just completed three months of rescue training. During his training , he learned / had learned a breathing technique to help overcome his fear . He breathed in slowly for four counts , held his breath for four counts , and then breathed out slowly for four counts . After doing this a few times , he felt ready to face the day's challenge.
