The American Alligator is an example of a reptile that was endangered, but is making a comeback and now only listed as threatened. Between 1870 and 1970 it is estimated that 10 million alligators were killed by humans. In 1976 the US Fish and Wildlife listed the American Alligator as an endangered species, it became illegal to hunt alligators. In only 20 years the American Alligator was recovering and it became listed as only a threatened species.
Research an endangered reptile and write a non-fiction newspaper article to protect the reptile. Your article should include where the reptile lives, why it is endangered, about how many of its species still exist and how you think the reptile can be saved.
Some examples of endangered reptiles include: the antiguan racer, the green sea turtle, the leatherback turtle, the Komodo dragon, the virgin island tree boa. You can choose one of these or another endangered reptile to write your article on.
