The Nobel Peace Prize is a distinguished award and honor. Singer-songwriters are still authors/writers even though it falls in to a different category of writing. Their talent and work presented should not be exempt from qualifying them from being nominated and even winning. When the qualifications were established to be eligible for this award, there was nothing set that it could not include musicians. I feel that if a musician/songwriter writes his own lyrics for his music, he should be eligible to be nominated and even be presented this distinguished honor. Songs can have a very big impact on people, as much as any other form or genre of written literature. To people who listen to music and enjoy it, the positive impact can be life changing. The artist/songwriter could inspire a person to become who they want to be. Due to the fact that the the lyrics are written and published in the music, their author should qualify.

If songwriters are excluded from winning the Nobel Peace Prize, that could really affect the audience that follow the awards. Adding songwriter/musicians to be eligible to win would broaden the audience demographics, as some people are very into music, even though they are not avid readers. Even though the songwriters may not have previously been included, the times have changed, so the committee should be open to expanding the qualification for nominees.

Allowing a musician to win the prize also creates more competition for the other nominees which will make all of the artists/authors want to work harder. By adding more competition it will be like every other sport, you will want to work until you are number one. When people are pushed to be in the number one spot it makes there work quality better also. Before if there was only five people in the competition it would be a little bit easier than if there was ten or more people in it.

Given the ever changing interest level and changes to what is popular in the world today, allowing a songwriter/musician to be able to be nominated and even win the Nobel Peace Prize in Literature would be beneficial. Adding a new dimension to this award and allowing the diversity of those who would be interested in following this will be a good choice. By including these individuals to be included, the audience will grow and expand interest in other musicians to follow in participating and possibly even doing more creative writings.
