Joseph Conrad has been seen by many scholars as progressive because his work criticizes the practices of colonialism. However, as Chinua Achebe points out, his presentation of Africa and African people is deeply problematic. In your opinion, is Achebe right? Is Conrad a 'bloody racist?' Should we continue to read his work? Is there still value to discussing the valid critiques of colonialism present in his work, considering the other problematic aspects?
