Tone and mood in text makes the reader understand the emotional context to a situation. For example, "I want to go home." the boy said," could be taken in many difference ways. If you add "I want to go home," the little boy whispered sadly," that completely changes the meaning of a sentence. Or, "I want to go home," the angry boy shouted." also changes the mood/tone of a sentence in a different way. Tone and mood set the emotion for a story or poem, and that is why it is important.
