After writing out your instructions, use the technology available to you to record those instructions. Have a family member, teacher, or friend listen to your instructions and perform each step. Observe
your volunteer and ask yourself these questions:
• Was your volunteer able to achieve the desired result?
• Was your volunteer able to follow each step of your instructions?
• If not, which step(s) were unclear to your volunteer and why?
After your volunteer completes the task, ask him or her these questions about the instructions:
• Were my instructions clear?
• If not, what parts of my instructions were not clear and why?
• What additional information do I need to provide for you to complete this task?
After asking yourself and your volunteer these questions, write a reflection that describes what you did
well and what you could improve about your instructions. Be sure to include details related to feedback
from your volunteer as well as yourself.
