Analyze your favorite song--identify its parts and sections: verses, chorus, bridge and outro. (Not every song has all of these parts.) Study the song's rhyme scheme, and also see if you can summarize the song's main idea or approach. Write your own song lyrics, imitating the structure of the song you analyzed. You can express a similar theme or go in a completely different direction with the subject matter. If you like, you can use the song's chorus or refrain in your own song, and simply write new verses. (Be sure to cite, or give credit to, the musician who created the original song.)
