This is a cornerstone of our nation. However, Harry Blackmun, former US Supreme Court Justice, said, “In order to treat some persons equally, we must treat them differently.” Was Justice Blackmun right or wrong? Write a well-developed essay in which you explain your position, providing convincing support for your choice. To begin your prewriting, you must first decide if you agree with this statement or not. Once you have done that, then you should find evidence to support your position. You may use examples from your own life or from recent national events (anecdotal evidence) or evidence from any of the readings that we have done so far in unit 1 (or in semester A of your American Literature class).
