Literacy is important, as it is a common medium in which, at least one certain group, if not multiple bilingual groups, are able to use to communicate to each other quite efficiently, which includes the ability to not only be able to read information and to understand it throughout all mediums, while also being able to express one's own opinions and thoughts in such a way as to allow others of the same kind to be able to understand the point you are trying to give across. If everybody did not have literacy, there will be no medium in which to send across one's ideas and findings to be shared across the community, and maybe even the world.
