October 30, 1895 Dear Diary, For so long I have wondered what it is I should be doing with my life. I am not inclined toward homemaking, nor do I enjoy the constant pursuit of cultural enrichment as is prevalent for so many women of my standing in America. However, I am happy to report that I have heard my calling! Inspired by the movement that began in the 1870s, I am going to work toward social justice in our embattled urban environments. As woman, I seek to emulate the inestimable Jane Addams, whose success instills in me the confidence that I, too, can help better the lives of .
