People sometimes return library books late. Most librarians then make those people pay a fine. But some librarians are trying something different. They say that fines are old fashioned. Instead of paying money, these librarians let people "read down" fines. How does this work? One child owed a fine. She paid it by reading. For every 10 minutes she read, she made one dollar. She read for one hour. That was enough to pay the fine. Anyone 18 and under can read down fines. Librarians want people to keep coming back. They hope this new idea will help. Do It!
