Jimmy is very unhappy in the story when his mother tries to control where he goes, but she says “My decisions are made for your own good Jimmy”. Do you agree? In your opinion, do you think parents should control their teenagers' whereabouts and the people they spend time with? Why or why not?

Based on what the other parents know about Paul, do you think their decision to keep their children from participating in the hike was fair?
Have you ever been treated unfairly in your life? How did it make you feel? Did your experiences help you relate to Paul and his situation?

In the story Jimmy makes a difficult decision by going against what his mother tells him. Do you think he did it to rebel against his mother or to help Paul feel better? Think of a time where you had to make a difficult decision. What did you feel like?
