Writing Assignment: Native American Myth Myth: an anonymous, traditional story that relies on the supernatural to explain a natural phenomenon, an aspect of human behavior, or a mystery of the universe.

Creation Myth: tells how the world and human beings came to exist.

Origin Myth: explain how natural phenomena, such as the stars, moon, and mountains came to be or why society has certain beliefs and customs.

“Myths are used to give people  a sense of order and identity, to heal the sick, to ensure plentiful supply of food, to teach moral lessons, and to initiate young people into adulthood and the wisdom of the tribal past.” p. 21
