Have you ever wondered how words come into being? Many words have been around for centuries; some evolved from common usage of slang terms. Other words are developed to suit
a specific purpose.
In 1914, the Dodge Brothers enlisted Theodore MacManus to develop an ad campaign for their
new automobile company. Though the company was young, its car line was quality driven.
Dodge car owners often wrote to the Dodge Brothers in praise of their well-built and reliable cars
and used the word “dependable" so frequently that MacManus coined the term "dependability"
and used it in the ad campaign. The advertising was so successful that the company continued
to use it for the next 50 years!
Thinking of a product you or your family use on a regular basis, create an advertisement
centered on the product's dependability. The advertisement can be in the form of a graphic
designed for print or a "commercial" videotaped for broadcast. Use the area below tb outline
your storyline and develop the concepts needed to create your advertisement. Submit your
completed advertisement to your teacher according to the classroom policy.
