Why does steinbeck make reference to the songs in every chapter of "the pearl"?

The Song of Family, the Song of E v i l, and the Song of the Pearl all represent how K i n o is feeling and the current m o t i f of the book. The Song of Family represented balance and content, the Song of E v i l represented unbalance and d a n g e r, and the Song of the Pearl represented g r e e d and what it can do to you.
