The American Revolution established the United States as an independent nation. It also inspired people in countries around the world. In this lesson, you’ll study the causes and effects of the French Revolution, which was partly inspired by the American Revolution. The creation of the Declaration of Independence, which announced the United States’ separation from Great Britain, was a revolutionary act in itself. Read this quote from the document and answer the question that follows: When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
