To the Head Designer:

This reference letter is provided at the written request of Julie Johnson. It is my understanding that Julie is being considered by your organization for the position of assistant designer.

I have known Julie for the past two years as she has taken the following courses that I teach: History of Art, Basic Design, and The Artistic Method. As her professor, I have had an opportunity to observe the student's participation and interaction in class and to evaluate the student's knowledge of the subject matter. I would rate the student's overall performance in these subjects as well above average. She received A's in every class of mine she undertook.

The one area in which the student's performance could be characterized as average is in oral communications. In my estimation, she simply needs to gain additional experience in communicating with people in many varied situations, and her confidence and skill will flourish. Based upon the student's academic performance and my understanding of the position for which the student is applying, I believe Julie would perform extremely well and would make any employer proud.

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Betty Smith, Professor
